The short answer
The best AI visibility tool is the one that matches your budget and what you'll do with the data. Enterprise teams with analysts need depth and integrations. A founder or a small marketing team needs a clear answer to "are we named, and what do we fix first?" at a price that makes sense before AI search brings in any revenue.
Before you compare anything, run a free check (/check). If ChatGPT doesn't know your brand at all, you need fixes more than you need a dashboard, and a free check plus a short list of actions may be enough for the first month.
The five kinds of AI visibility tool
The market splits into five groups. Each tool's own site has its current pricing and features, and our comparison pages set out the differences as fairly as we can.
**Enterprise platforms.** Built for large brands with dedicated teams and procurement processes. Examples: Profound (/vs/profound), Scrunch AI (/vs/scrunch-ai), AthenaHQ (/vs/athenahq) and Goodie AI (/vs/goodie-ai). They tend to focus on depth, integrations and security, and some are sold through a sales call rather than self-serve sign-up.
**Self-serve trackers for small teams.** Sign up, add your questions, see results the same day. Examples: Otterly.ai (/vs/otterly-ai), Peec AI (/vs/peec-ai), LLMrefs (/vs/llmrefs) and Anovox.
**Add-ons to SEO suites.** Useful if you already pay for the suite and want AI data next to your search rankings. Examples: Semrush AI Toolkit (/vs/semrush-ai-toolkit) and Ahrefs Brand Radar (/vs/ahrefs-brand-radar).
**Content tools with tracking.** Writing tools that also check AI answers. Examples: Writesonic (/vs/writesonic) and Frase (/vs/frase).
**Free graders.** One-off snapshots, good for a first look but not for tracking change over time. Examples: HubSpot AI Search Grader (/vs/hubspot-ai-search-grader) and our own free check (/check).
Six questions to ask before you buy
**1. Which engines does it check, and how?** ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity behave differently, and the same engine answers differently with and without web search. Ask whether the tool searches the web for each engine, and whether it stores the full answers so you can read what the AI actually said.
**2. Does it show uncertainty?** AI answers vary from one run to the next. A single "visibility score" that jumps ten points overnight is usually noise. Look for ranges, sample sizes, and a clear rule for when a change is real.
**3. Does it tell you what to do?** Monitoring alone doesn't change answers. The useful output is a ranked list of fixes for each question you're missing from: which page to publish, which schema to add, which sites to get mentioned on.
**4. Can it show whether a fix worked?** After you publish a page, you want to compare answers before and after for the question it targeted, not just watch an overall number move.
**5. Is the price predictable?** Check whether you pay a flat monthly price or buy credits that run out, and how many questions ("prompts") you can track.
**6. Is there a free way to start?** You should be able to see real answers about your own brand before paying.
Which kind fits you
- **A founder or small business checking the basics:** start with a free check, then a free or low-cost self-serve tracker. Ten to twenty well-chosen questions are enough to begin. - **A marketing team at a growing company:** a self-serve tracker with daily checks, competitor tracking and fix suggestions. Add an SEO-suite add-on only if you already use that suite every day. - **An agency:** look for several brands in one account and reports you can send to clients. - **An enterprise brand:** an enterprise platform is built for your procurement, security and integration needs.
Mistakes we see often
- Tracking hundreds of questions on day one. Start with the 10–20 your buyers actually ask (/tools/prompts helps find them). - Reading one day's result as a trend. Give it a few weeks of data. - Paying for tracking before fixing the basics: AI crawlers blocked in robots.txt (/tools/robots), no Organization schema, no listings on the review sites AI assistants read.
Where Anovox fits
Anovox is a self-serve tracker for founders, small teams and agencies. It checks ChatGPT and Gemini on the free Starter plan; Growth ($79/month) checks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity daily, and Agency ($249/month) adds Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral across up to 10 brands. Share of voice is shown with a likely range, a change is only reported when it beats noise, and every gap comes with ranked fixes. You can start free at /check.
